September 2009: Making A Plan And Taking Action

When it comes to living a healthy life it is all about Carpe Diem (Seize the day). What I mean by that is: The path to wellness is best traveled today not tomorrow! Making a plan and taking action immediately is key to making lifestyle changes that can lead to better health. If you need to start incorporating exercise into your daily routine or eating a more balanced diet than start today. No more excuses or explanations.

Making lifestyle changes is about incorporating these important elements into your life despite your hectic schedule. If your life is like the majority of ours and you are waiting for a “calmer” time to start making changes than chances are you are going to find that day never comes. Besides, the more hectic, and subsequently the more stressful your life is at any given moment, the important it is for you to take better care of yourself. If you find yourself falling into the pattern of saying I am going to do better next week, next month, or next year than it is time to re-evaluate and take a closer look at what is keeping you from doing it today. Granted changes is always very challenging but postponing important lifestyle changes only creates a greater hurdle to overcome.

So since you have taken the time to read this article you have run head on into the following challenge. Make one plan today that involves two steps:

  1. Make a nutritional lifestyle choice that you are going to implement right now. It may be something along the lines of drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day or only eating one serving of dessert per week. Whatever it is decide and act NOW!
  2. Make an exercise plan and complete Day 1 TODAY (except if you are reading this after 5 pm and I will give you one grace day)! The exercise plan may be walking 10 minutes or depending on what you are capable of it may be swimming 50 laps. Set a realistic goal for yourself and then accomplish it. You will feel great about being able to check it off your list and more importantly you will have started the process of making better lifestyle choices not tomorrow but today.

No one ever said taking better care of yourself was easy but it is one of the only ways you are going to discover what your best can be - starting now!
